The Federal Government of Nigeria, in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has successfully streamlined the process for disbursing match bonuses to the Super Eagles following their performance in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco. This development ensures that players receive their entitlements promptly, in line with international best practices, while reinforcing the government’s commitment to supporting the welfare of Nigeria’s national team.
According to Dr. Doris Uzoka‑Anite, Honourable Minister of State for Finance, all administrative and regulatory hurdles that had previously delayed the release of funds have now been cleared. “Our focus remains entirely on supporting the team’s welfare so that they can maintain their incredible momentum in the knockout rounds,” the Minister stated.
The first stage of the process saw all group-stage match bonuses fully funded and cleared through the necessary regulatory channels. To ensure a faster and more efficient system going forward, the Federal Government and the CBN have implemented a fast-track foreign exchange conversion process, enabling players to receive their bonuses in their preferred foreign currency. The final disbursement of funds to players’ domiciliary accounts is now underway, with the transfers expected to reflect within days.
This swift administrative action follows heightened public interest and extensive media coverage regarding the timely release of the bonuses, demonstrating the government’s responsiveness and commitment to transparency. By addressing these challenges proactively, the Ministry of Finance has not only ensured that the Super Eagles are rewarded for their dedication and performance but has also set a precedent for efficient, predictable, and internationally aligned payment processes for national sporting engagements.
Dr. Uzoka‑Anite emphasised that the streamlined procedures will continue to govern future payments, ensuring that players and officials have confidence in timely compensation. “We move forward with one goal: bringing the trophy home,” she added, highlighting the broader objective of national pride and sporting excellence.
This initiative reflects the Federal Government’s dedication to supporting Nigerian athletes, fostering national unity, and strengthening institutional processes that ensure accountability, efficiency, and alignment with global best practices. The Super Eagles can now focus fully on their tournament campaign, confident that their contributions are recognised and rewarded without administrative hindrance.
