A Few Words About Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite
From Private Practice to National Service:
Her Journey in Leadership
Dr. Doris Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite, MD, CFA, is a medical doctor turned finance and public policy leader who currently serves as Nigeria’s Minister of State for Finance. She has held senior leadership roles across the public and private sectors, combining healthcare, banking and finance expertise to drive economic policy, trade and investment priorities.
Prior to transitioning into public service, Dr. Uzoka-Anite built a distinguished career in the banking and finance sector, most notably at Zenith Bank Plc. She joined the bank in 2002, initially in the Corporate Social Responsibility unit and subsequently in Human Resources & Training, before moving into Treasury in 2011. Over the following years she advanced to senior leadership roles, including General Manager and ultimately Group Treasurer, where she was responsible for managing large-scale foreign-exchange and asset-liability portfolios and steering the bank’s treasury operations through complex market conditions. Her private-sector expertise in financial risk management, fixed income and currency trading, and treasury strategy laid a strong foundation for her subsequent entry into government, bringing technical depth and corporate discipline to public finance.
Dr. Uzoka-Anite’s public service career commenced at the state level when she was appointed Commissioner for Finance and Coordinator of the Economy in Imo State in March 2021 under Governor Hope Uzodinma, where she oversaw the state’s fiscal management and economic planning. In August 2023 she was selected by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Nigeria’s Minister of Industry, Trade & Investment, a role she held until October 2024. On 2 November 2024, she assumed her current appointment as Minister of State for Finance of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, where she now drives fiscal reform, capital-markets engagement and investment mobilisation to support economic growth.
As Minister of State for Finance, she is deeply committed to advancing Nigeria’s fiscal stability, investment attractiveness, and inclusive economic growth. Her vision centers on building a resilient financial system that supports innovation, job creation, and sustainable development across all sectors. Guided by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, she prioritizes fiscal transparency, public-private partnerships, and the modernization of Nigeria’s financial architecture to align with global best practices.
